The Portugal Jewels dress appears in the music video “Marcha”, placing Portuguese jewelry in a territory close to haute couture.

Portugal Jewels developed a one-of-a-kind dress composed entirely of traditional Portuguese jewelry, created for Bárbara Bandeira to wear in the music video “Marcha”, as part of the project LUSA Act II.

Valued at approximately $105,000 (€90,000), the piece weighs 7 kilograms and brings together some of the most emblematic forms of Portuguese jewelry, such as Viana Hearts, Queen Earrings, Galician Earrings, filigree, and spiral motifs, among other traditional elements, executed using techniques passed down through generations.

"Jewelry has the capacity to exist at scale, as language rather than detail. This project shows how it can move beyond static display and into contemporary creation"

says Joana Bastos Gomes, founder of Portugal Jewels.

The piece follows a logic close to haute couture, treating jewelry as the structure of the garment itself and creating a unique object. Handcrafted, the dress was conceived for the artist’s body and for the performative context of the music video.

Here, jewelry moves beyond a purely decorative symbol to assume a central role in the narrative and movement of the visual project.

This creation takes traditional Portuguese jewelry into a territory where time, the body, and gesture define value. It shows how traditional jewelry can exist outside the display case and within contemporary creation.
