We work in four materials. The exact material for any piece is listed on its product page.
925‰ Silver (Sterling Silver)
Pure sterling silver, the highest standard for silver jewelry. 925‰ means the alloy is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals. Silver is alloyed this way to make it harder, stronger and less easily deformed.
925‰ Silver, Gold Plated
Solid 925 sterling silver with a layer of 24Kt gold applied over it. You get the warmth and appearance of gold with the durability of silver.
This is plating, not solid gold. The gold layer wears over time, and that's normal, we can re-bath a piece whenever it needs it. For more on this and on oxidized silver, see Oxidized silver and gold-plated silver.
19.2Kt Gold
One of the purest gold alloys in the world, and a hallmark of the Portuguese goldsmithing tradition. It's a higher purity than the 18Kt standard used in most other countries, something Portugal does that almost nowhere else does.
9Kt Gold
A more accessible solid gold option with a lighter gold content, crafted with the same Portuguese artisanal quality.
Gold plated or solid gold?
The distinction matters, so here it is plainly:
| Base metal | Gold | |
|---|---|---|
| Gold plated | 925 sterling silver | A 24Kt coating on the surface |
| 9Kt / 19.2Kt | Solid gold throughout |
Which collections are in gold?
Most of our jewelry is in 925‰ silver. These collections are the exceptions:
- Essentia, in 9Kt gold
- Ouro Português, in 19.2Kt gold
- Minas Novas, in 925‰ silver and 9Kt gold
Which one is my piece?
Every product page lists the material. If you can't find it or you're not sure, send us the product name or link and we'll confirm.
If you'd like to verify the hallmark of a Portuguese jewelry brand, you can check it with the Portuguese assay offices, see Is my Portugal Jewels piece certified?
